What is On Page Optimization

What Is On-Page Optimization?

In layman’s terms, on-page optimization refers to the practice of improving a website’s search engine rankings through the use of appropriate keywords and meta tags.

It traditionally involves specifying appropriate keywords (and sometimes phrases) in certain areas, such as the page’s title and headings, with the intention of encouraging search engine crawlers to identify those words as topics relevant to that page or site.

There’s a difference between an on-page strategy for improving search results and an on-page obfuscation scheme. Let’s look at what we mean by on-page optimization.

How Does On-Page Optimization Work?

When search engine spiders visit a website, they scan through the web pages of that site in order to discover keywords. Depending on the relevance of these words to the topic of that page and the relevance of this page to other pages within the site, a score is assigned to that website and its associated pages.

This score is used by search engines to rank the websites according to their relative usefulness and importance. The lower the score, the higher the ranking.

The keywords keyword density is also important. Keywords should be used in a way that does not cause clutter but rather flows naturally throughout a site. Keyword density refers to how many keywords are used on every page. Not only should every page have at least two words related to a specific keyword, but every page should have more like 3-6 words related to this keyphrase.

Search engines also observe the following:

Content

Content is a very important key factor in the success of any website. Content must be of high quality, relevant, and updated regularly.

Additionally, it is important to make sure that all links on your site are relevant to the content of your site.

A headline that is too detailed or too short can deter people from clicking on the link, which may cause them to leave your site or worse–not read it at all! Images, graphics and video content can also help with attracting traffic and diversifying your content.

Page Size

Search engines will notice the size of your pages. They evaluate the content volume for each page to determine how many visitors will likely be coming to your site. Search engines will not index a page if it is too large or has too little content. If the page has too little content, then it will be hard for it to rank well in search engine results pages.

Page Speed

Another factor that search engine spiders take into consideration when determining your site’s rankings is the page speed. Search engines will not index a page or site with high bounce rates. That means if visitors are quickly clicking on links to leave your site, it will reflect poorly and even potentially hurt your ranking in search engine results pages.

Meta Tags

Meta tags are used for indexing of pages by search engine bots. It is imperative to use keywords in title, description, and other meta tags so that search engine bots can recognize the keywords used on your website.

Page Linking

Search engines do not index the links to your pages. Therefore, you must make sure that all the links on your site are relevant and clear so that users can find them easily. With a well-designed navigation, this won’t be a problem.

Schema Markup

Schema markup is a way to assert the importance and relevance of your website. When search engine bots crawl your site and come across schema markup, it will make them more aware of the content on that specific page. Schema markup is recognized by search engines and can help your ranking in search engine results pages.

Quality Backlinks

Websites with high-quality backlinks are given a better rank by search engines.

On-page optimization DO NOT involve controversial matters, such as political, religious, or sexual content. The search engines do not want to be associated with these topics and will periodically penalize a site.
